Details

Chateau Cheval Blanc 1964 is a legendary wine from Bordeaux, France. It has a mature garnet color with hints of brick red. The nose reveals ripe black fruits, leather, cedar, tobacco, and spices. On the palate, it is velvety with flavors of blackberries, cherries, plums, leather, tobacco, and truffle. The texture is silky with integrated tannins. The finish is long and lingering, with a harmonious blend of fruit, spice, and earthiness. This vintage is a collector's item, showcasing the hallmark characteristics of a mature Bordeaux wine.

Robert Parker - 96 Points

"A blockbuster Cheval Blanc and probably the greatest Cheval Blanc made during the sixties and seventies, this wine still has a dense, murky garnet color and knock-out aromatics of coffee, black fruit, and spice box. The wine is opulent and fleshy with enormous glycerin and power. It is still very muscular, also with slightly robust tannins to shed, but this wine seems almost immortal in terms of longevity. My best guess is that, from pristinely stored bottles, this wine is still in late adolescence and not yet at its peak of maturity. Anticipated maturity: Now-2025. Last tasted, 12/02."
