Details

Chateau Haut Brion 1959 is a legendary wine from Pessac-Leognan, Bordeaux. Its complex bouquet of dried cherries, blackcurrants, and hints of leather and truffles leads to a full-bodied, elegant palate with silky tannins and flavors of dark fruit, chocolate, and espresso. Its remarkable complexity and finesse showcase the quality of the terroir and winemaking skills. This wine has a long, memorable finish, and is best savored slowly and thoughtfully, as it reveals new nuances and flavors with each sip. This wine has the potential to age for many more years and is a true masterpiece of Bordeaux winemaking.

Robert Parker - 93 Points

"The 1959 Haut-Brion did not live up to expectations. I have had nearly perfect examples of the 1959, often preferring it ever so slightly to the 1961 when tasted side by side. That was not the case in Munich. Although the 1959 was outstanding, it seemed less concentrated, more disjointed, and more evolved than the 1961, displaying a more roasted aromatic profile, and less sweetness and unctuosity than previous bottles"

Antonio Galloni - 96 Points

"The 1959 Haut-Brion is deep in color. It is blessed with a truly fabulous nose of mulberry, desiccated orange peel, star anis and here, a faint touch of hickory. It is ebullient and decadent, much more than the 1961 for example. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and lower acidity than other coeval vintages. Stylistically, this particular bottle entertains a bit of Côte-Rôtie in the mix. Sage and clove enhance the precocious black fruit towards the potent yet ineffably harmonious finish. This is a fabulous Haut-Brion that might just be in the final stages of its drinking plateau. Superb. Tasted at a private dinner in Beaune."
